Blogging for LGBT Families

Ok, so I'm a little late for this. But when am I ever on time. June 1st was the set day. Here's the link for those interested: http://www.mombian.com/2006/05/03/lgbtfamilies/ But when is it ever too late to celebrate our special families? So in honor of this blogging event, I will share about a recent special day. May 26, 2006 was our adoption day. Carla officially and legally became Cadence's other mom. It only took a few months to get all of our paperwork filled out and get a court date. The judge was great. She was warm and friendly and made us feel right at home. She said more than once that we were already a family, and this was just a formality. Our lawyer told us the judge doesn't have any kids of her own, and so she loves doing these adoptions. We took pictures with the judge and our lawyer. This was our lawyers first 2nd parent adoption. In light of recent events in our family, this was definately a bright spot in what has been a bleak year. We are so fortunate to be able to do this in New York. If only everyone could see that families are families, no matter what their makeup. We laugh, we cry, we fight, we make up, and most of all, we LOVE. So even though the law has now deemed us a family. Love made us a family long ago. Happy Pride month!
